Music of Germany
The Germans can be called a musical nation because Germany gave the world such famous musicians and composers as Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Strauss and Handel. Classical music in Germany was born in the 18th century and in the next two hundred years has flourished. Today, students from all over the world flock to German musical institutions. Curiously enough, more than three hundred thousand Germans themselves are professional musicians. Classical music in Germany is still popular and widespread. Every year there are various festivals, from the Bayreuth Festival dedicated to Wagner to festivals of contemporary music.
Today, Germany’s music market is the third most important in the world. Germans have made a huge contribution to modern rock music. By developing in various genres, they have been able to popularize their culture and get the public, particularly fans of rock bands, interested in music in Germany as a whole. Famous representatives of the rock genre are Scorpions (hard rock), Rammstein (industrial metal), Guano Apes (alternative rock), Oomph!, Crematory, Grave Digger (heavy metal), Tokio Hotel (pop rock) and others. German bands Helloween and Blind Guardian became founders of the international power metal genre. Such narrow national genres as Kraut rock, German industrial, a kind of new wave genre called Neue Deutsche Welle and others are also known in Germany.
Since the 70s, the world began to learn about German pop musicians. In the 70s and 80s artists like Modern Talking, Boney M, Sandra, Bad Boys Blue are well known abroad, especially in the former Soviet Union. Without hits of Modern Talking not a single decent disco could do. In the 90’s Germany picked up the baton of eurodance and put on the world stage the bands E-rotic, Captain Jack, Masterboy, Fun Factory, Activate and others.
To complete the picture it is worth to mention the electronic music. This trend is represented by such German artists and bands as Enigma, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, trance and techno musicians Scooter, ATB, Sash!, Cosmic Gate, Paul van Dyk, Kai Tracid, Markus Schulz.
No matter what style you like, if you plan to connect your life with music, you need to learn musical fundamentals, develop your existing skills, study the theory and practice a lot.
