I was lucky enough to be invited to The Palms’ show this week at the Troubadour. Blending pop rock with some hip hop delivery, The Palms played a set worth remembering. The Years, the primary opener, however, clearly stole the show with their Portugal the Man-esque brand of dancey alt-rock. Their set was short and sweet, but left people not only dancing but actually begging for more when their succinct setlist concluded. Alt-rockers Psychic Love opened.

Release of the Week: The Flaming Lips – Oczy Mlody

The band continues to gaze with Oczy Mlody

One certainly can’t accuse The Flaming Lips of getting tamer with age. The group’s 16th (!) album, Oczy Mlody, is out today (which also happens to be frontman Wayne Coyne’s birthday), and the LP continues to further explore the depths of the experimental rock band’s commitment to mind-expanding, drifting sonic tendencies.
