The Starting Line has been around for decades now. The emo underdogs have outlasted many of their peers and the scene’s own collapse and rebirth…and they have ended up at the very top of it, right where they should be. The Starting Line have always specialized in playing more-complicated-than-it-seems version of pop-emo. Where their peers either fell too much on the pop side (Fall Out Boy, Panic!) or on the more obscure side (Hot Rod Circuit, The Get Up Kids) of the emo divide, The Starting Line always managed to just dance on that razor’s edge and ingratiate themselves with just about everyone. They played their 20th anniversary show the other night at the Regent, and set every single heart soaring and throat singing in the audience with their massive anthemic songs and their ecstatic personas.
