Zeal and Ardor’s rise to alt-metal stardom has been precipitous and deeply rewarding. The band, who manages to effectively and face-meltingly combine old spiritual hymnals and black metal, rocked a sold-out performance at the Roxy the other week with fellow avant-garde metalists Astronoid who manage to turn black metal on its head and form a kind of spacey “light-metal”. Both represent genre-pushing of the best kind and the highest order. Check out the photos after the jump.
