LA-based experimental folk band We Are The West are set to release their debut LP, The Golden Shore, on March 30th. They will be supporting the new album with a West Coast tour that kicks off with their own, monthly secret underground garage show on the 31st – just one of the many secrets that are revealed in my conversation with founding member and guitarist/vocalist Brett Hool.

We sat down at the band’s favorite food spot, El Texate in Santa Monica, to discuss the recording process of the new album, why they want to release it now, and, of course, why LA has perfected mole and Mexican food.

Listen to the full interview below, and below that, take a listen to the album’s lead off single, “Siren.”
