The Color Purple

Look out, there’s a new coach in town! Jennifer Hudson has officially signed on to coach season 13 of The Voice, alongside returning coach Miley Cyrus, and current coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

“Jennifer is an extraordinary vocal talent, and one of the premier voices of our time. She embodies the experience, expertise, positivity and sheer talent that The Voice stands for,” stated NBC Entertainment alternative and reality group president Paul Telegdy in a statement on Wednesday. “Her exceptional skills as a singer and actress have extended to film, television and Broadway, which makes her an incredible addition and a natural fit for our show.”

Hudson first appeared in the public eye in 20014 as a contestant on American Idol. Although she was voted off in week seven (what happened there, America?!) she still scored a record deal with Artista Records.

Hudson went on to win an Oscar in 2007 for her role as Effie in Dreamgirls, as well as a GRAMMY in 2009 (best R&B album) and in 2017 (best musical theatre album for The Color Purple).

Earlier this year, the mega-talent was a coach on The Voice UK and won her season. Here’s to wishing her luck stateside!
