Telling the tale of two doomed lovers, Halsey has hit her fans with a new, elegant electro-pop stunner off of her upcoming sophomore album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom,
The graphic six-minute music video comes in the form of a short film, directed by Sing J. Lee and Halsey herself – her directorial debut. As RollingStone reports, Halsey claims the video “is one part in the center of a long narrative that tells the story of two people in love despite the forces trying to keep them apart.” She adds that “on its own, the song is about two impatient young lovers, but in the context of the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom universe, the stakes are much higher for these two star-crossed lovers.”
The single is laid back and catchy, with a steady beat throughout. It was produced by Cashmere Cat (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd), Happy Perez (Mariah Carey, Miguel), and Benny Blanco (Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran). Check it out below!
If Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, due out on June 2nd, follows the trajectory of “Now or Never,” I have no doubt it will be a chart-topper!
