I’ve been to many birthday parties in my life, but this one was truly top-notch.
When I was invited to attend Warren’s birthday party at the storied Sunset Sound studios, I had no idea the fun I’d have or the people I’d meet. But it was obvious upon walking in that I was in the midst of some serious hustlers in the industry. I could not have been more inspired by the engineers, producers, and musicians I came across. So many great stories and so many great records on the wall displaying rock ‘n’ roll history at its finest.
There were jams, there were collaborations, there were listening sessions (we even listened to The Doors’ first album, which was recorded in the room we were standing in. I mean, c’mon.)
Notable attendees included legendary studio bassists like Jerry Jemmott (Aretha Franklin, B.B. King) and Brandino ( Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige), CJ Vanston (Spinal Tap, Joe Cocker), Scott Shriner (Weezer), Tony Franklin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, The Firm), Paul Ill (Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys), Tanya O’Callaghan (Maynard James Keenan), Erik Eldenius (Billy Idol), Pete Thorn (Chris Cornell, Melissa Etheridge), and top producers and engineers like Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Weezer), Ross Hogarth (Van Halen, Motley Crue), Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Counting Crows), and Tommy Vicari (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince).
The event sponsors were extremely friendly and kept everyone happy. Some of the reps I met were the sweetest I’ve encountered in the industry, proving that Warren and his team surround themselves with the very best. Some of them were BAE Audio, Genelec, Lewitt, Vintage King, McDSP, and Trinnov. Endless drinks were provided by Jack Daniels, and the bartender made beautiful concoctions with what he had to work with. Everyone was in great spirits, no pun intended.
Warren deserves the celebration he received on this special night. The man has produced enough music to make anyone happy and content with his contributions. In 2000, Warren entered into a partnership with Phil Jaurigui of Swing House Rehearsal/Recording studio, located right here in Hollywood. Since then, he has produced and/or engineered the following artists among others:
The X Factor (U.S. TV series)
Jamie Hartman of Ben’s Brother
Hot Hot Heat
Better Than Ezra
The Dance Party
Future leaders of the world
The Tender Box
Jay Clifford from Jump Little Children
Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde
The Fontaine Brothers
Quite the list, right? Yeah, the party was awesome.
Happy birthday my friend, thank you for the inspiration!
