Common recently released his excellent 11th album, Black America Again, and it’s an extremely timely soundtrack to the turbulent times that we as a country find ourselves navigating (it’s no coincidence that the album was released right around our presidential election).

In conjunction with the record, Common also recently shared a short film centered around the album’s title track, a powerful piano-driven song that features vocals from Stevie Wonder. Directed by Selma cinematographer Bradford Young, the 21-minute clip packs a powerful message via images both abstract and direct, with the rapper sharing screen-time with children, adults grieving at a Freddie Gray memorial, and more.
