We’ve had some pretty major losses in the music community over the course of 2016, with some particularly painful ones in the mix. One of those artists is Prince, whose artistic brilliance and persona will remain ingrained in our collective consciousness so long as we keep spinning his records and periodically screening Purple Rain, which is exactly what happened at the very last Eat|See|Hear of the summer.

Amongst those in attendance of the outdoor screening of the film was David Fisch, our resident reporter/podcaster/blogger/music nerd. While there, he got a chance to interview on-the-rise multi-instrumentalist VOKES, whose mix of other genres into the genre of soul helped set the mood right and got the crowd ready for the Purple One.

While VOKES decided against covering Prince during his set to avoid comparison, he acknowledged the artist’s influence and discussed what was going on with his first EP, Fractalism, as well as shared other musings.

Check out the full interview with VOKES and a performance video down below. if you haven’t been keeping up, you can view all of the videos in our series with Eat|See|Hear via our YouTube playlist or on our Facebook page.
