With one of the sickest hip-hop lineups this year, Day N Night Fest delivered a party for the ages at Oak Canyon Ranch this weekend. Trap rap and hip hop took over Irvine with headliners from A$AP Rocky to YG. However, up-and-coming artists like MadeinTYO and Vic Mensa were all the hype. Fans came from the Bay Area and beyond to indulge in this two-day festival catered to those ready to turn up.

Despite the two-hour wait to get into the parking lot, the energy was unreal at the main stage. Thousands of fans kept the crowd bouncing through MadeinTYO‘s hits “Uber Everywhere” and “I Want.” After hearing him perform his bangers, some of the crowed rushed to the WeedMaps stage to catch some Dreamville vibes.

Dreamville took over the WeedMaps stage with Bas and Cozz’s lit performance. Cozz took the stage first, delivering songs from 2014’s Cozz and Effect and his more recent mixtape, Nothing Personal. Bas turned it up with Too High To Riot, and since he’d been out the scene since Last Winter, he made sure to let the crowd know it felt good to be back. The two killed it for their collab on “I Need That” and had fans going wild.

Back on the main stage, Rae Sremmurd did a surprise performance of their hit singles “No Flex Zone” and “No Type.” Following after was Lil Yachty, who put it down for the trap fans with songs from his latest mixtape, Summer Songs 2, and “1 Night” from Lil Boat.

Lil Uzi Vert fans rocking his merch lined up on the side of the stage to call his name and snap a picture of the rapper before he started his set. He ended up being the talk of the festival, not only because his Perfect Luv Tape had fans going but he almost got tackled running into the crowd.

Post Malone came on as the sun went down and mellowed out the crazy crowd. Fans sang along to “White Iverson” and tracks from his latest mixtape, August 26th. Although he has a chill vibe, he prepared the crowd for the next performer: YG.

All the lights turned red for YG’s entrance, and the Bompton native went through almost every hit song he ever made during the set, starting off with tracks from Still Brazy like “Why You Always Hatin,” “Twist My Fingaz,” and, of course, “FDT.” He wrapped up with classics “Who Do You Love” from My Krazy Life and “Bitches Ain’t Shit” from Just Re’d Up.

The highlight of Day One was A$AP Rocky, who came out like a damn rockstar while singing “L$D.” Rocky brought the East Side to Cali and brought the energy up with one of my favorite tracks, “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2.” He had to give it up to A$AP Yams and get the pit going to “Yamborghini High.”

Other than getting stuck in the parking lot for three hours due to rumors of a gunman, Day One was a success.
