Maybe you’re like me. Maybe the thought of festivals brings with it a host of stories, emotions, and memories dealing with discomfort, annoyance, and dirt. Or maybe feelings of being wholly and utterly overwhelmed despite your intense love of music.

Once only occasional events, like Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo, that were meant to ape Woodstock, festivals are legion in this day and age. It seems like every weekend is yet another one, each bringing with it the same dusty, dirty grounds. The same grody, overused, sweaty bathrooms. The same long hours and sore backs. The same cramped facilities…

KAABOO Del Mar aims to set itself apart from all of that.

In place of dusty, hot San Bernardino or the sweltering blacktop of Pomona, KAABOO is bringing an incredible variety of bands from all eras and genres to temperate Del Mar, while giving the event a bit of class by hosting it at the Del Mar racetrack.

The festival promises a variety of comfortable environments (the beach, pools, shade, grass…), clean and spacious bathroom facilities, high-quality food (yeah, I know it’s hard to believe, but check their website), and, even more unbelievably, a spa and relaxation zone.

Couple that with the (absolutely bonkers) lineup they have managed to pull together, and it’s a match made in heaven, even for someone who is dubious of music festivals. Imagine getting to jam out to (my favorites) Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, or Sugar Ray from the pool or beachside. Imagine eating an awesome dinner while taking in Aerosmith or Snoop Dogg or Jack Johnson.

KAABOO purports to be made by music lovers for music lovers, and looking at what they promise, it’s tough to argue with that. Festivals, too often, seemed designed for the music tourist — a way to pack as much content into as little time as possible with little thought to comfort. It’s like a shot. KAABOO aims to be a full meal appealing to all senses, appetites, and interests while still reminding the attendee that each of these amenities is designed to enhance the musical experience.

And again, the amount of talent they can boast on the lineup this year is unbelievable: Jimmy Buffet, Aerosmith, Jack Johnson, Fall Out Boy, Lenny Kravitz, Hall & Oates, Snoop Dogg (DJ set), Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, Sugar Ray, Collective Soul, Macy Gray, Ludacris, Cypress Hill, Citizen Cope, Blues Traveler, The Aggrolites, and on and on. It reads like a wish list of every band you’ve ever wanted to see ever.

KAABOO Del Mar takes place September 16th, 17th, and 18th, and LA Music Blog will be in Del Mar for all the music, food, and fun. Passes to KAABOO are still available for purchase, so I hope to see you there!
