Chance The Rapper just dropped his highly anticipated Coloring Book mixtape, and it is already living up to all the hype.
The Chicago-based artist incorporated gospel influences and raw lyrics into this instant summer classic, staying upbeat and soulful with captivating wordplay. Features on the mixtape include Kanye West, Future, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Justin Bieber, T-Pain, Lil Yachty, Jay Electronica, and more, but Chance is at the core of the release, with his rhymes touching on issues that are important to him and giving voice to his thoughts as an artist.
Coloring Book opens up with “All We Got” featuring Kanye West and Chicago Children’s Choir. The jazz instruments on top of the hip-hop and gospel music give the track an uplifting vibe, while “No Problem” featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz and “Summer Friends” featuring Jeremih, Francis, and The Lights are going to be the summer jams. “Summer Friends” is more chill, with a relaxed vibe and a dope bounce.
“Mixtape” featuring Young Thug and Lil Yachty is the lit track you can bump in your car, and if you’re looking for the tape’s slow jam, it’s “Juke Jam” featuring Justin Bieber and Towkio. “Angels” featuring Saba is where Chance gives it up to his city and the single he released with a music video. He ends the mixtape with a second version of “Blessings,” giving listeners a personal look into his gratitude and journey to where he is now.
While the individual tracks boast different guests, vibes, and styles, the gospel hooks and choruses bring Coloring Book together perfectly, giving the mixtape its focus and Chance The Rapper another solid release under his belt.
