Today kicks off Black History Month, so it’s fitting that it also marks the release of rapper/singer Daye Jack’s music video for “Hands Up.” Despite the breezy production of the track, the song addresses some heavier issues that are illuminated by the barrage of news clips featured in the video, which showcase the injustice that has been plaguing our country.

A guest verse from Killer Mike adds a more seasoned perspective to the song, but make no mistake – the 20-year-old artist more than holds his own on this track. In the wake of his Soul Glitch EP, Daye has collaborated with singer-songwriter Tori Kelly on her debut album, Unbreakable Smile, and released several singles, with “Hands Up” being the most recent.

Prior to the release of his full-length album with feature production from Nosaj, Mike Elizondo, Max Martin, and more, Daye will join New Orleans rapper and musician Pell on the 30-date Only In Your Dreams tour. That run kicks off tomorrow, February 2nd, in Chicago and wraps on March 30th in Los Angeles with a show at The Echo.
