Much of Los Angeles reluctantly returned to work on December 28th for that weird, interstitial period between Christmas and New Years Eve when there was a 50/50 chance anyone you needed to be at work would actually be there (call it “Schrodinger’s Work Week,” I guess). To ease the pain, Chaz Bundick shared some new music, a quartet of previously unreleased tracks and loosies, to be exact.

The hip-hop influence here is strong. Toro y Moi’s last album, What For?, was a blissfully bright and infectious indie-rock record, almost devoid of the heavy beats and processing of Causers Of This or Anything In Return. These tracks are much like the latter two. They’re short, too, which makes them feel more like pages from the music sketch pad of Chaz’s mind over the years.

If you love Causers Of This and wish everything was drowned in sexy, sexy lo-fi…

If you love Anything In Return and have a need for funk…

If you love experimental Chaz…

If you love J Dilla and wish there was more music like his…
