If there’s one thing that you can count on when it comes to the music of Beck Hansen, it’s that he tends to work in cycles, fluctuating between vulnerably stripped-down folk records like his last album, Morning Phase (the one that robbed Beyonce of her award at the GRAMMYs, remember?), and more densely produced, electronic fare. Well, if the new song “Dreams” he just released is any indicator, he’s back to the latter.

Although Beck hasn’t provided much context for the song, he has said that it is part of an upcoming record. Is that record the recently-talked-about collaboration with Chic’s Nile Rodgers? The long-lost Dust Brothers collaborative album? We simply don’t know yet. Regardless of how “Dreams” fits into the larger picture, we can only hope that whatever project the song is affiliated with follows the lead of this uptempo, danceable track. It should definitely find its way into all of your summer party mixes this year.
