“If it’s too loud, you’re too old” is officially incorrect. Studies have shown that one in six teens is suffering from some sort of hearing loss related to attending concerts, listening to recorded music too loudly, or even being exposed to lawn mowers or hair dryers. As a musician who has been playing for over 20 years, I can definitely say, “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?”

Singer Aloe Blacc has had a few good years with his hit singles “I Need A Dollar” and “The Man” all over R&B and pop radio. They are both great songs, and “The Man,” in particular, is a head-bobber that has inspired people of all ages and been used in several commercials. Blacc’s reach grew quite a bit after the single’s release, and now he is planning to doing something important with his fame.

Blacc is teaming up with Starkey Hearing Foundation’s Listen Carefully program to help raise awareness for teen hearing loss. By submitting a 30-second PSA about the importance of hearing protection to Listen Carefully, students can enter to win a private concert from Aloe Blacc and his band for their school.

Students who want to enter can submit their videos now. Second and third place winners will also get a trip with a parent or guardian to the show. It’s a great cause that doesn’t get enough attention by avid music listeners.
