Are you sick of hearing me sing the praises of local electro-pop outfit Kitten yet? Well, too bad because with the release of its self-titled debut full-length earlier this year, the Chloe Chaidez-fronted project appears to be just warming up and I’m nowhere near out of breath.

After five years of lineup changes punctuated by promising EP releases, Kitten finally dropped its debut full-length via Elektra Records in June. Fueled by the group’s charismatic young frontwoman, the album is a dance-inducing nod to the ’80s with a lush and modern production polish. Full of longing, boldness, and uncertainty, these are the kinds of coming-of-age songs John Hughes would tap to soundtrack his Brat Pack films if he were remaking them for a modern audience.

Kitten has been one of my most-played albums of the summer, and it’s already on my shortlist for favorite LPs of the year, but the best way to experience this group is undoubtedly live. I’ve caught Kitten in concert several times, but if you haven’t been so lucky, you’ll want to pick up tickets for their show at The Glass House in Pomona with Gary Numan on October 23rd.
