Hands-down, my favorite part of living in the City of Angels is the passion and creativity constantly surrounding me. From self-producing incredible albums to raising money on Kickstarter to fund independent films, residents of Los Angeles know that DIY is the way to go. In an attempt to create a collective of supportive, talented artists looking to do just that, members of local band Town in the City are holding Fallfest this Saturday, October 18th.

Billed as “the ultimate celebration of the local LA music scene,” this all-day concert will feature indie, folk, rock, and psychedelic acts. “I would say we are very inspired by the Laurel Canyon bands of the seventies that all kind of hung out and played together,”┬ásaid Town in the City vocalist and guitarist George Chammas. “Bands like The Mamas and the Papas, The Byrds, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Lovin’ Spoonful, Joni Mitchell… We want to create a similar environment with this festival.”

Several of our past featured bands will be performing at Fallfest, including Town in the City themselves and Sumeau, as well as recent LA Music Blogcast guests Hi Ho Silver Oh, The Blank Tapes, Son Ark, Many Distant Cities, and more. The musical improv team Robot Teammate and the Accidental Party will even make an appearance.

The festival will run from 12pm to 10:30pm, and tickets will be $5 at the door. Activities include a pumpkin-carving contest, raffle, and tie-dye station, and food and drink will be available for purchase as well.

“Our main goal is to bring together a music collective within LA, where bands can often be competitive and cut throat, and create a sense of newfound community,” said Chammas, who is opening his home in Studio City for the festival. “It’s something that we are doing on a grassroots level, and we hope that it can take hold and flourish and become a beautiful little anomaly within Los Angeles!”

With a unique, intimate setting and some of the most promising local LA folk bands, Fallfest is poised to be the perfect event to kick off your autumn adventures.
