Last Friday night, I was weaving along Mulholland Drive, windows down, basking in the glow of an awesome improv show. Per my request for some “relaxing music,” my teammate plugged in his iPod and began playing Wildcat! Wildcat! The dreamy vocals and poppy synth of “Hero” flowed out of my speakers, and I knew I had found my next favorite band, especially as the pre-chorus kicked in with, “How long must I wait for you here?”
I was happily surprised by this discovery for two reasons. Firstly, Wildcat! Wildcat! is a local Los Angeles act [comprised of Jesse Taylor (vocals, bass), Michael Wilson (vocals, keys), and Jesse Carmichael (vocals, drums)]. Secondly, LAmb has already had our eyes on this up-and-coming band, celebrating both their trippy video for single “Mr. Quiche” and their live performances.
While the trio played together in various incarnations before officially forming Wildcat! Wildcat! in 2012, since then they has received praise for their 2013 self-titled debut EP, including early support from BBC Radio 1, Time, and NYLON. The band has toured extensively, including performances at SXSW, a sold-out West Coast headlining run, and major US support slots with Alt-J and Portugal. The Man.
Wildcat! Wildcat! just released their debut full-length record, No Moon At All, on August 5th via Downtown Records. The slightly electronic, indie-pop album was produced by M83’s Morgan Kibby, and fans of Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos will quickly fall in love with Taylor’s high-pitched, velvety vocals. No Moon At All is perfect for late night drives and is currently available for purchase via the band’s website.
Wildcat! Wildcat! is in the middle of a nationwide tour set to stop by Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre on October 21st. Pick up your tickets now, and be able to say you knew this band before they broke big!
