This weekend is one of celebration! Summer is wrapping up, and we only have a few precious weeks left to enjoy California’s best season. And what better way to live it up than by going to some of the incredible festivals that will be taking place this weekend? Whether you want to enjoy some of history’s most important music or see the hottest current bands, LA is the place to be this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Beatles’ 50th Anniversary @ Hollywood Bowl – Friday August 22nd, through Sunday, August 24th – Tickets
I’ll admit, the band lineup doesn’t look that impressive — Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics (the one that isn’t Annie Lennox), Billy Ray Cyrus, Michelle Branch — but one name that is intriguing is soul man Allen Stone. Regardless of the questionable lineup, if you weren’t able to see Paul McCartney at Dodger Stadium last week, this a decent substitute. Hey, it’s better than sitting at home listening to Revolver again, and seats are as cheap as $15!
FYF Festival @ Los Angeles Sports Arena – Saturday, August 23rd, and Sunday, August 24th – SOLD OUT
This is a pretty ridiculous lineup. Phoenix, The Strokes, HAIM, Flying Lotus, Earl Sweatshirt, The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx, POT USA, Chet Faker, Against Me, Little Dragon, Future Islands… I mean, shit! Well played, FYF. If you didn’t get tickets, you’re kind of a sucker. FYF is quickly becoming one of California’s best festivals, and you don’t even have to travel to Indio.
10th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery – Sunday, August 24th – Tickets
And you thought I was kidding when I said festivals and celebration. Huge names are playing all over LA this weekend, and on Sunday a few more big names will pay tribute to the late, great Johnny Ramone. Fred Armisen, Rob Zombie, Duff McKagan, and Steve Jones will be there celebrating the work of one of the most important names in punk rock.
