This summer weekend promises more great weather and equally great music around town. While there are literally hundreds of shows to choose from, here are my picks for the best dance music of the weekend in LA!
DJ Dodger Stadium – Friday, July 11th – The Echo – Tickets
DJ Dodger Stadium just released an album this week, and their show tomorrow night promises to include a litany of new tracks. Produced by the team of Samo Sound Boy and Jerome LOL, Friend of Mine is a wonderful compilation of thumping house beats, pipe organ, and superb vocals. If you can’t make it to the show yourself, be sure to at least keep an eye out for LAmb photographer Jeanette Hernandez’s photo gallery next week!
Hot Chip – Saturday, July 12th – Avalon Hollywood – Tickets
British-born electronic music act Hot Chip will be rocking the premier Los Angeles nightclub venue this Saturday, and you’re not going to want to miss this party. Joined by Klangkarussell and Henry Krinkle, the show promises to keep the beats going late into the night. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Avalon’s remodel yet, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy amazing music in a remade venue.
New Order + La Roux – Sunday, July 13th – The Greek – Sold Out
New Order played their first US gig in many years at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2012, and their synthesizer-driven pop fused with electronic dance beats style has since thrilled audiences with performances at Coachella and Lollapalooza along with appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Sunday night they’ll be swinging by The Greek Theatre with special guest La Roux, an English synthpop act founded by singer, keyboardist, writer, and producer Elly Jackson. This will truly be some of the most danceable music you could enjoy on a single night out, and while the event is sold out, it’s definitely worth looking into other channels to make it into this show.
