Just last week Zola Jesus, the musical alter ego of Nika Rosa Danilova, announced Taiga, her follow up to 2011’s Conatus. Now she is giving fans a taste of what’s to come on the new album with its first single, “Dangerous Days.”

With so much talk of death in the musical industry in the last couple of days between Lana Del Rey and EDC, the song name feels a bit ominous, but title aside, Zola Jesus actually peeks out from the experimental solitude of her previous releases and injects “Dangerous Days” with a more hopeful, yet never saccharine, dose of pop synths and driving beats. The weight of Zola Jesus’ voice never fails to deliver a dose of reality and tangible sadness regardless of the song’s pop leanings.

Taiga is set for an October 7th release. The title of the new album borrows from the forests of Zola Jesus’ Russian ancestors and the Wisconsin wilderness of her childhood.

No official word yet, but with a fall release, be sure to keep an eye out for an accompanying fall tour.
