LA Music Blog has long been under the spell of Warp Records, but if you’re unfamiliar, our resident Brit Jay Chirinos put together a playlist of the UK label’s many talented artists last year. As Jay mentions in that article, he turns to the label’s roster whenever he feels the “need to fulfill [his] strange craving for esoteric and innovative electronica,” and the artist who’s currently been on that roster the longest is George Evelyn, better known as Nightmares On Wax.
Evelyn got his start in the ’80s UK B-Boy and graffiti scene, but his love of New York hip hop led to his innovative merging of the foreign and the familiar, resulting in the the early stages of what we now know as “trip-hop.” More than 25 years since joining forces with Warp, Nightmares on Wax is still going strong, and this Sunday, June 22nd, he’ll be treating an LA crowd to a show on his largest US tour to date. Want to be at that show? Good, because we have TWO pairs of tickets to give away to it!
