This Thursday, Portland-based act Battleme — the alter-ego of Matt Drenik — will be treating fans at The Echo to a night of country-leaning bedroom pop. Drenik was previously a member of the Austin-based group Lions, but Battleme came about in 2009 as the necessary evolution of Drenik’s songwriting venture for the television show Sons of Anarchy, for which he shifted his focus to his lyrics and the story-telling aspects offered in outlaw country.
Now, five years into the solo project, Battleme has released its sophomore album, Future Runs Magnetic, and put together a slew of back-to-back tours for the year. Battleme’s stop at The Echo is one of a handful of West Coast and Northwest dates, which come on the heels of a tour with The Toadies. After that, a summer tour will see him hit the road with the recently-reunited Veruca Salt in July, but if you want a golden egg now, The Echo offers the perfect intimate setting for Drenik’s equally intimate storytelling, and tickets are still available.
