Happy first Tuesday of June! This week’s list of notable new album releases is a decidedly punk-heavy affair, but with a couple of female singer-songwriters, an indie rock act, and a Sinatra-inspired crooner thrown into the mix, you should be able to find something to like no matter your genre preference.
Check out the albums that have me excited below, and be sure to let me know in the comments if I’ve missed a great release this week.
Die Antwoord – Donker Mag
Inexplicably fascinating rave rap duo Die Antwoord releases its third full-length today via their own Zef Recordz label.
Hamilton Leithauser – Black Hours
Charismatic former frontman of The Walkmen releases an album inspired in part by Frank Sinatra and 1950s vocalists. Collaborators on this debut solo effort include Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend), Paul Maroon (The Walkmen), Morgan Henderson (Fleet Foxes), and Richard Swift (The Shins/solo)
LP – Forever For Now
LA-based singer/songwriter perhaps best known for her track “Into The Wild” releases her debut full-length via Warner Bros. Records, celebrating with a release show at Sayers Club tonight.
The Orwells – Disgraceland
Angelica offered up her take on the Chicago quartet’s sophomore LP last week, calling it “pure rock.” Read the rest of her review, then pick up tickets to catch the band at The Fonda on September 29th alongside SKATERS.
Tigers Jaw – Charmer
Pennsylvanian indie-rock band releases its third studio full-length on Run For Cover Records. Catch them at The Glass House in Pomona, CA on June 27 & 28 with local favorites Touché Amoré.
Tijuana Panthers – Wayne Interest
Head out to garage punk act Tijuana Panthers’ free record release show at The Roxy tonight, then catch them on August 21st at El Rey Theatre with Fucked Up, another act releasing a new album today.
