Since last year’s inaugural Life is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas — easily one of my favorite events of 2013 — I’ve been eagerly awaiting news of the 2014 iteration. The announcement that the festival had expanded to three days was the first hint of big things to come. Months passed until finally, this week, the long-awaited lineup was announced.
I don’t think “da bomb” quite cuts it here. “Supernova,” perhaps? Sitting pretty in the headliner spots are Kanye West, Foo Fighters, and Outkast. Under them is perhaps the strangest trio of bands ever assembled: Arctic Monkeys, Skrillex, and Lionel Richie. The undercard acts are more than capable of holding their own, with psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips, mashup maestro Girl Talk, rising alternative superstars Alt-J, neo-soul legends The Roots, and indie pop sensation St. Lucia featured, to name just a few.
An equal part of the Life is Beautiful experience is my other love, food. No other festival does it better, and Life is Beautiful is poised to retain that crown in 2014. This year’s chef lineup sees the addition of The Bazaar head honcho José Andrés alongside returning chefs Scott Conant (Scarpetta), Hubert Keller (Fleur de Lys), and many more.
Tickets go on sale today at 10am, and start at $199.50. Get on that.
