You can always count on a long weekend to bring some seriously awesome shows to Angelenos and visitors alike. From a four-day festival to female singer-songwriters, if you’re bored this Memorial Day weekend, you’re doing it wrong.
Lightning in a Bottle @ Lake San Antonio Recreation Area – Thursday-Monday, May 22-26, 2014 – Tickets
Featuring the likes of Moby, Phantogram, Little Dragon, and The Lucent Dossier Experience, this year’s LIB boasts one of the strongest lineups in the festival’s history. Music aside, festival goers have the opportunity to destress with an array of yoga classes or learn something new from the multitude of eclectic speakers. Full weekend passes are still available at $260 and include a camping pass, a bargain compared to the likes of bigger weekend fests such as Coachella or Outside Lands.
Hellogoodbye @ The Glass House – Saturday, May 24, 2014 – Tickets
If a full weekend is a little too much of a commitment for you, Hellogoodbye’s indie-pop jams will be filling one of my favorite venues, Pomona’s Glass House, on Saturday. An opening set from Vacationer and the fact that tickets are only 15 bucks should should help make your Memorial Day weekend a touch sweeter.
Suzanne Vega @ El Rey Theatre – Saturday, May 24, 2014 – Tickets
Looking for something a little more calming than a full weekend festival or a night of dancey bleepy bloops? Folk-inspired singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega will be lighting up Mid-Wilshire at LA’s own El Rey Theatre. With an illustrious musical career that has spanned two decades, I can think of no better way to pay tribute to one of the most enduring modern female songstresses. If you hurry, you might even be able to win passes to this one.
