Though 2011’s W H O K I L L was technically tUnE-yArDs’ sophomore effort, it was also the album that introduced me to the weird, wonderful world of Merrill Garbus. Upon hearing the album, I quickly fell in love the the quirky New Englander’s eclectic blend of smooth vocal harmonies, bouncy percussion, and inventive arrangements, but nothing quite compares to witnessing Garbus’ live show in which she seemingly pulls those detailed arrangements out of thin air, expertly looping and experimenting with sounds in real time.

Needless to say, I was very excited when I saw a press release announcing the forthcoming release of tUnE-yArDs’ third album, Nikki Nack, waiting for me in my inbox this morning. The album won’t be released until May 6, 2014 via 4AD, but Garbus did us the kindness of preparing a little taste of new music with a ‘Megamix’ of the upcoming album. “I’ve put together a mash-up of a lot of the songs from the album, so you can get a tiny taste. We really can’t wait to play this music for you. Thanks for all your support and patience while we cooked this chicken!”
