Pop-folk songstress Kina Grannis has announced a headlining tour for her sophomore album, Elements. An intimate slew of gigs will take her across North America, leading things off with a hometown show at The Troubadour on May 6th, which coincides with the album’s release.
On her more recent releases, Grannis’ vocals sit front and center with their naked quality perhaps totally eclipsing the music found on her first effort, Stairwells. For the new album, she seems to have found a musical equalizer in Aqualung’s Matt Hales, who produced the forthcoming Elements, bringing with him his penchant for self-contained devastation.
Grannis’ latest single off the new album, “The Fire,” is powerfully understated and heats like burning embers. The songs starts out stark, with Grannis’ voice stretching over a simple beat that builds in intensity from the first moment. Grannis has also released an additional track from the album, “My Own,” which features harmonies with the singer’s two sisters. The track again features a newfound depth in its alt-country aesthetic.
Grannis’ Troubadour show is already sold out, but we’re sure you can figure something out. Her stark songs are sure to make for an intriguing set at the intimate venue.
