I know you’re addicted to the Sochi Olympics right now. I’m much more of a Summer Olympics gal than a Winter Games kind of chick, but whatev — I’m down to smell whatever the USA’s cooking regardless.
Aside from watching America kick all that foreign ass in that 60-degree pile of slush they call Sochi, the best part of the Olympics so far has been hearing all the cool songs featured in the commercials between the action. Take a look at a few of my favorites now, and play them to cheer yourself up when the inevitable post-Olympics depression sets in.
Sia – “Breathe Me”
(as featured in Coke’s 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics commercial)
Pretty song, huh? That’s Sia, an Australian singer/songwriter you might not have heard of, but who’s collaborated with the likes of Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Flo Rida, Katy Perry, and lots of other big names. “Breathe Me” is from Sia’s 2004 album, Colour The Small One.
Moon Taxi – “The New Black”
(as featured in BMW’s X5 Sochi Winter Olympics commercial)
Look, it’s Moon Taxi! Remember when I saw them at the Troubadour and they ruled? It’s great to see them getting so much exposure. I told you they’d be taking off, didn’t I? “The New Black” is from Moon Taxi’s latest album, Mountains Beaches Cities.

Findlay – “Off & On”
(as featured in BMW’s 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics commercial)
This up-tempo knee-slapper is courtesy of Manchester’s Findlay, who kind of sound like if The Black Keys were fronted by a female Jack White. Beware: this song’s addictive. “Off & On” is from Findlay’s 2013 EP, Off & On.
The Wyld – “Odyssey”
(as featured in McDonald’s’ 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics commercial)
I thought we left rap-rock back in the year 2000 where it belonged, but apparently the genre has improved a bit while I was trying to forget about it. This track from New Zealand’s The Wyld is pretty awesome, actually. Fred Durst, are you listening? “Odyssey” is from The Wyld’s 2013 album, Abstract.

Explosions in The Sky – “Your Hand in Mine”
(as featured in Liberty Mutual’s 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics commercial)
What’s more American than the sweet sounds of electric guitar? This is instrumental rockers Explosions in The Sky, who recently did the soundtrack for the incredible film Lone Survivor, making them American as shit, too. America. America! “Your Hand in Mine” is from Explosions in The Sky’s 2003 album, The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place.
