If you’re looking to escape all the glitz and glamour of Oscar weekend, we’ve got the rabbit hole for you. This weekend in LA brings out more than just the “Thank You” speeches and awkward nip slips on the red carpet — it brings a slew of talented young musicians to the forefront. Looking to emote? We’ve got that. Looking to dance? Yep, we’ve got that too.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. @ El Rey Theatre – Friday, February 28 – Tickets
El Rey’s about to get funky on Friday. Detroit indie-pop duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (which, by the way, is one of my favorite band names to say) has recently released a hip hop-inspired mixtape. Produce features the likes of Murs, Quelle Chris, and Asher Roth, as well Chuck Inglish and Slim from 112. While not completely eschewing the band’s own aesthetic, Produce is still fresh and quirky. Get out to El Rey on Friday to bounce to tracks that sample Paul Simon and…Wallace Shawn?
Lord Huron @ The Fonda Theatre – Friday, February 28 & Saturday, March 1 – Sold Out
We just recently posted the video for Lord Huron’s “She Lit a Fire,” a love-laden odyssey of epic proportions. The band’s carefully curated adventurous and folksy aesthetic will be front and center this weekend (Friday & Saturday) at The Fonda. The shows are sold out, but we’re sure you can figure out some creative way to catch the band’s last Cali performances before they head eastward.
Angel Olsen @ The Echoplex – Sunday, March 2 – Tickets
It just so happens that we have THREE pairs of tickets to give away to Angel Olsen’s upcoming show at the Echoplex. You’re well advised to enter because Olsen’s latest album, Burn Your Fire For No Witness, continues the songstress’ journey through stalwart yet sublimely raw emotional musings. This time around, however, Olsen brings even more swagger to the mix.
