The beloved/dreaded Valentine’s Day is this weekend, and whether you have someone to share concerts with or you’re flying solo this holiday, there is more than enough live music in LA to provide a soundtrack to your date/night to yourself. From major touring bands to one of my indie favorites, the acts that are coming through Los Angeles this weekend will make a perfect companion to your self-bought box of chocolates.
GRAMMY Award-winning band Imagine Dragons, one of the biggest breakout acts of 2013, is celebrating Valentine’s Day here in LA this Friday. The band played an intimate yet high-energy show here in January, so their arena tour will certainly be even more invigorating for music fans. The show looks to be sold out online, but check the day of for last-minute release tickets and on-site sellers.
If you’re a lady who doesn’t have a Valentine this year, gather up your single friends and head to The Troubadour to see badass female guitarist Orianthi and rock out in all that feminine glory. This Australian rocker has toured with Alice Cooper and was set to support Michael Jackson on his final This Is It tour. She’s played alongside John Mayer, Michael Bolton, Chris Brown, and many more, so if you’re looking for quality rock ‘n roll guitarwork, head to The Troubadour Friday.
I am a huge fan of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down since we share the same alma mater, William and Mary (not a college known for its hip music scene given its location in Colonial Williamsburg). Thao was a favorite among students and always put on great alt-rock/folk shows. She has since graduated to nationwide tours and always put on a delightful, eclectic performance.
