After announcing their breakup last year, My Chemical Romance has stayed relatively quiet despite many of my favorite bands announcing reunions or re-releases. Today, however, one of the most theatrical alt-rock bands I’ve ever loved released “Fake Your Death,” the last song they recorded together.
The brand new song is a more upbeat, pop-tinged clap-along compared to MCR’s earlier, darker fare. The below video offers a nice retrospective of some of my favorite My Chemical Romance videos.
The track was paired with a trailer for My Chemical Romance’s upcoming greatest hits album, May Death Never Stop You, set to drop on March 25, 2014. Is it just me or does that graveyard-meets-palm-trees album cover just scream Hollywood Forever Cemetery?
The compilation will span the band’s twelve-year career and includes tracks from Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade, and more as well as previously unreleased demos. Preorders are available on the band’s website and packages include a behind-the-scenes DVD and t shirt.
