When the highly anticipated Coachella lineup is announced, it’s always a huge topic of discussion, and the 2014 edition was no different. Now that we’ve had a couple days to digest the news, it’s time to dig in a little deeper and explore who these bands are.

With three jam-packed days full of music, who do you make the time to see? Of course, Outkast and Arcade Fire are definite musts. But who else? These are my top five recommendations for those heading to the dessert in April.

1. Bonobo

The first time I saw Bonobo, I was completely blown away. British-born Simon Green, better known as Bonobo, is a musician, producer, and DJ whose incredible music is accompanied by a full band. With heavy and complex basslines complemented by incredible vocalists, his was by far one of my favorite shows of last year.

2. Hot Since 82

This is one dance party you don’t want to miss. UK based DJ/producer Hot Since 82 has a unique style that is sure to keep you dancing non-stop. With groovy beats and catchy vocals, every time I’ve seen him, I’ve had such a fun time.

3. Flume

Hot on the heels of his four-disc Deluxe Mixtape release, young Australian producer Harley ”Flume” Streten will be rocking a tent at this year’s Coachella, and I couldn’t be happier about it. His blend of deep, melodic bass with a minimalist twist is unique and enjoyable.

4.  Lee Burridge

Lee Burridge is one of my favorite house DJ/producers of all time. His label, All Day I Dream, has released some of the most melodic, dancable house and techno tracks that you’ll ever hear. He also explores the realm of minimal techno and does so incredibly well.

5.  The Naked and Famous

This New Zealand-based quartet is one of my favorites due to their fantastic blend of alternative rock, electronic, and vocals. Lead singer Alisa Xayalith’s lilting vocals complement each and every song perfectly.

Check out the full Coachella lineup for yourself. I would love to hear your thoughts on this list. Any of your favorites that I left out? Coachella is all about exploration, so whichever tent you end up in, I hope that your musical experience is full of wonderful discovery.
