Well, it’s the last weekend of January and the weather is lovely. In fact, it’s fairly hot. So what will you do with yourself this weekend? After hitting the beach and enjoying some sunshine, why not check out a couple of shows? If you don’t have your plans locked in yet, here are a few recommendations.
RL Grime @ El Rey Theatre – Friday, January 24th – Sold Out
Henry Steinway (aka RL Grime) graduated from NYU with a degree in music business. This multi-talented artist then initially released music under the name Clockwork in a more electronic/progressive house style before transitioning into his trap- and bass-centered alter-ego RL Grime. He’s playing at El Rey tonight and Friday, and although both shows are sold out, it could prove worthwhile to head down to the theater and see about snagging a ticket to one of these shows.
Tydi, Andy Moor, and Kristina Sky @ Avalon – Saturday, January 25th – Tickets
If trance is more your cup of tea, Avalon Hollywood is hosting a night that includes three of the top trance DJ/producers in my book. Kristina Sky is an LA native who’s been wowing the crowds for over a decade. Her energy and spirit radiate from the booth and infuse crowds with happiness. Another superior DJ/producer taking the stage Saturday night is TyDi. I had a chance to chat with him last year and found that both his music and his positive spirit are inspiring on and off the stage. Rounding out the amazing talent for the evening is Andy Moor. This GRAMMY-nominated artist has created some of the great trance tracks of our time and is truly a veteran and master of the scene.
The GRAMMYs on CBS – Sunday, January 26th – Free from your TV
There’s a reason The GRAMMYs are called “music’s biggest night.” Arguably, music has many big nights, but there is something amazing about watching the recording industry’s most prestigious award show. If you’re not one of the lucky few to be invited to attend, never fear! You can view it from the comfort of your own home on CBS. One of my favorite GRAMMY performances of all time was by P!nk in 2010. In case you missed it, check it out below.
So what are you doing this weekend? I would love to hear in the comments what you’re getting into.
