On January 18th, Guitar Center will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its prestigious Drum Off at Club Nokia. If you aren’t a drummer or musician, this might not sound that exciting, but trust me, it’s awesome!
For the last several months at Guitar Centers across America, competition has been pounding amongst hundreds of the country’s best drummers. Out of that massive group emerge five finalists. To determine a winner, each finalist will prepare a solo routine that will be judged on the drummiest of drum criteria: performance, originality, technique, stage presence, and groove.
While bragging rights are definitely a bonus for the winner, Drum Off also gives some of the most amazing players in the industry the chance to compete for much sought-after prizes, including $25,000 cash, a custom drum kit, a complete set of cymbals, a drumhead and stick endorsement, and more. The competition also often leads to other opportunities for the contestants. Previous winners include Cora Coleman (Prince), Tony Royster Jr. (Jay-Z), and Eric Moore (Suicidal Tendencies).
In addition to the competition, the 25th Anniversary event will feature performances by some of the best drummers in modern music, with Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ray Luzier from Korn both teaching short clinics and performing solos.
Drum Off gives drummers and music fans alike an opportunity to see some of the most amazing performances of the year, and with tickets available for under $20, it is a fun opportunity that won’t break the bank.
