BANKS-slider

This week, temperatures in Los Angeles dipped into the forties, and our thin-blooded residents bundled up and stayed inside whenever possible. With the weekend, however, comes an eclectic mix of performances in our fair (and currently somewhat freezing) city that are well worth heading outdoors for.

Whether you are looking to dance to some electronica, enjoy a musical, or rock out to some punk, prepare to bundle up and enjoy the endless opportunities to see awesome performances in LA this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Banks @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery – Friday, December 13th – Tickets

Hollywood Forever Cemetery is one of the coolest, most unique venues in town, and if you’re missing its warm weather and nighttime movie screenings, check out LA’s Banks performing in the cemetery’s Masonic Lodge. This singer-songwriter is reminiscent of Fiona Apple with a layer of electronica, making her music hypnotically catchy. 2014 is looking big, so catch her at this small, personal venue while you can.

Zombie Joe’s A Christmas Carol @ Zombie Joe’s Underground Theater – Saturday, December 14th – Tickets

There are no shortage of indie theaters in LA, and I have heard rave reviews about this one. Given its name, this intimate space was unsurprisingly popular around Halloween, but they are spending this holiday season performing the traditional musical A Christmas Carol with a delightfully dark twist: zombies. With a steam punk chorus, this Christmas-themed nightmare will definitely be one of the most unique holiday performances you can check out in LA.

“A Total Disruption” – Amanda Palmer, DJ Diabetic, Ondi Timoner @ The Echoplex – Sunday, December 15th – Tickets

I am such a fan of strong female frontwomen, and there is no woman that comes close to the talented, eyebrow-raising Amanda Palmer. This summer, she earned my award for biggest badass for this extraordinarily ballsy response to a poorly written Daily Mail review, and she also recently visited the United Nations with UN Women.

This weekend Palmer comes to the Echoplex for a night of “total disruption.” She will headline and perform from her punk-cabaret catalogue, and DJ Diabetic (renowned graphic artist Shepard Fairey) will spin a selection of anarchic tracks. Two-time Sundance Award-winning filmmaker Ondi Timoner will premiere exclusive shorts as well, so add a little spice to your holiday season with this sure-to-be-edgy performance.
