Experimental British space rock band Spiritualized will be heading to Los Angeles to celebrate Valentine’s Day with you. The band has announced that they will help commemorate the opening of Downtown Los Angeles’ Ace Hotel and its Theatre in the historic former home of the United Artists Theatre.
The February 14th special event will see the Jason Pierce-fronted band playing their critically acclaimed Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space in its entirety. This will mark the first time Spiritualized has ever played the album cover to cover on the West Coast, and in fact, the first time they’ve played it in the USA since 2010 at Radio City Music Hall. The performance will highlight the album’s loftiness and gospel undertones by including a full orchestra and choir as well.
I’m currently getting my Masters in Historic Preservation, so I geek out on this stuff a bit, but the ornate 1927 Theatre has been lovingly renovated for the Ace Hotel’s use. The Hotel is scheduled to open in mid-January with the Theatre following suit with the concert in February. Tickets for the event put on in collaboration with Goldenvoice and FYF will go on sale on Thursday, December 19th. Though their video above is, shall we say, less than warm and fuzzy, their show will no doubt be just the sweet Valentine’s Day gift you’ve always wanted.
