Singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe released her sophomore album, The Body Wins, last year and has recently been putting out a slate of new music. Want to hear that new music live? Good news! The Texas native has announced a show at Hotel Cafe on December 17th.
Jaffe just released two new singles, “Satire” and “Defense,” both of which were produced by Midlake drummer, McKenzie Smith. The former intros with a delicate guitar strum reminiscent of REM’s “Find The River.” Then, alongside a melodic malaise, it traverses Jaffe’s innermost thoughts of a penitent retreat.
“Defense” takes a distinctly more assertive approach. With driving percussion dotted by ominous synths, Jaffe’s world-weary voice coaxes the embers of disappointment into a full-blown emotional inferno, singing, “looking for a reason to provoke my inner demons / lately they’ve been fueling my fire, fueling my fire.”
Not stopping there. Jaffe can also be heard singing on the new Eminem track, “Bad Guy,” and a making-of video for the track is now online.
Tickets for Sarah Jaffe’s December 17th Hotel Cafe show are now available.
