Happy Tuesday, readers! With the year winding down, the new album release pickings are becoming slimmer and slimmer, but this week does boast a handful of worthwhile efforts from across the musical spectrum. Check out the albums I’ll be listening to this week, and be sure to let me know in the comments if an excellent new release has flown under my radar.
AWOLNATION – Megalithic Symphony Deluxe Edition
Local favorites AWOLNATION will be releasing a deluxe edition of their debut effort, complete with a new track (“THISKIDSNOTALRIGHT”), b-sides, rarities, and remixes. In celebration of the release, they’re giving away a great prize pack, complete with an iPad (just in time for Christmas, too).
Blood Orange – Cupid Deluxe
Dev Hynes releases his sophomore effort under the Blood Orange moniker, featuring guest appearances by David Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), Caroline Polachek (Chairlift), Samantha Urbani (Friends), Clams Casino, and many more.
Death Grips – Government Plates
Today may see the official release of Death Grips’ No Love Deep Web, but we’re more excited about Government Plates, the new album that appeared as a free download on the group’s website Wednesday. Hey, we aren’t complaining about the lack of warning.
Five Finger Death Punch – The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell: Volume 2
LA-based heavy metallers FFDP release their fifth studio album overall and the second of 2013 (the first being Volume 1 of TWSOHATRSOH).
Jake Bugg – Shangri La
English musician, singer, and songwriter releases his sophomore album today, produced by Rick Rubin and recorded in Malibu.
Magik Markers – Surrender To The Fantasy
Four years after their last release, Connecticut noise-rock trio Magik Markers release a new album today, available via CD, LP, and USB, the latter of which includes the album, videos, lyrics, screen-savers, and more.
Polar Bear Club – Death Chorus
Upstate NY post-hardcore band unleashes their fourth full-length studio album on the world today.
Reggie & The Full Effect – No Country For Old Musicians
The Get Up Kids keyboardist James Dewees turned to Kickstarter to fund his solo project’s sixth studio album, featuring guest appearances by Adam Lazzara (Taking Back Sunday), Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance), and more.
The Entrance Band – Face The Sun
LA-based psychedelic rock act The Entrance Band (formerly known simply as Entrance) releases a new album today.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire OST
I don’t usually include soundtracks on the New Album Releases list, but with contributions from The National, Santigold, Of Monsters and Men, Imagine Dragons, Phantogram, and more, this is one compilation to check out.
