God bless the Internet. Despite its tendency to distract me with pointless lists (“Top Ten Best Things About Growing Up in the Nineties”) and pictures of cats, the Internet is a blessing, especially when it gives broke music fans never-ending access to live performances of their favorite bands. While I can’t afford tickets aboard Paramore’s concert cruise and am saving up to purchase tickets to their arena tour this fall, I can now watch the group’s entire performance at the 2013 iTunes Festival in London last Wednesday, September 4th, for free online!
In an industry in which music is becoming more spectacle than substance, Paramore’s performance focused on the music with a simple set-up and few stage effects. The sparse stage gave sparkplug Hayley Williams’ voice the spotlight as the fiery singer poured her heart out onstage. While guitarists Jeremy Davis and Taylor York were strong and silent throughout the show, Williams bounced around the stage, wailing power vocals from song to song and encouraging the crowd to participate (including a fan cameo during the riotous “Misery Business). The group performed hits spanning their discography, from their debut release, All We Know Is Falling, to their most recent release, Paramore.
Check out Paramore’s powerful performance below and join me in thanking the Internet gods for this gift.
