The air is cool. The traffic is terrible. I guess there’d be no way to know that it’s fall in Los Angeles if it weren’t. Thankfully, though, it’s almost the weekend, which means if you’re sitting in traffic, you’re probably at least going somewhere you’d like to be going. Here are a few places I’d like to be this weekend.
Stars @ El Rey Theatre - Thursday, September 19, 2013 – Tickets
Stars are playing at El Rey tonight, which is exciting. Their fall tour is sure to be full of licks from their latest album, The North, but truth be told, I wouldn’t worry about this show being purely new music. Stars has an extensive back catalog filled with great songs. LAmb’s own Gerry Doot will be at this one, so check back next week for his full recap of what went down.
Cold War Kids @ The Wiltern – Thursday, September 19, 2013 – Tickets
If you’re in a more rock ‘n roll mood, check out Cold War Kids tonight at the Wiltern. One of my favorite venues in LA, and the Cold War Kids definitely won’t hang you out to dry, either. They’re a solid band, and again, LAmb will be on the scene for this one with Marni Epstein attending. Check out her recent interview with frontman Nathan Willett to find out what you can expect from this show.
Fatboy Slim @ Club Create – Saturday, September 21, 2013 – Tickets
“Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat.” So goes Fatboy Slim’s mantra in his latest track. The EDM faithful can see him this weekend at Club Create. It’s bound to get a little ravey in there. Speaking of raves…
Nocturnal Wonderland @ San Manuel Amphitheater and Grounds – Saturday, September 21, 2013 – Tickets
You know it’s officially fall by the time Nocturnal comes around. It’s one of Insomniac’s longest-running parties, so, as you might expect, it’s a smorgasbord of big-name EDM talent. The “Sunken Garden” lineup is especially strong. Dash Berlin and Markus Schulz rounding out the night sounds like a good time to me.
M83 & Phantogram @ The Hollywood Bowl – Sunday, September 22, 2013 – Tickets
M83 and Phantogram will be blowing out the Hollywood Bowl this Sunday, and if I wasn’t skipping town this weekend, this is where I’d be. M83′s music is theatrical and epic in a way that uniquely suits that venue. Also, Phantogram has new music out, and it’s really good! At this point, though, it might be difficult to find tickets…
Symbiosis Gathering @ Woodward Reservoir – September 19-23, 2013 – Tickets
I will be out of town this weekend covering the Symbiosis Gathering Festival at the Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale, California. I’ve been blathering on about it for weeks now, but for good reason. Aside from being an excuse to take a road trip, there’s going to be a lot of really great music. Hudson Mohawke, Polica, IAMAMIWHOAMI, Starsliger, RL Grime… And those are just the big, internet-famous musicians. A lot of things will be happening, including yoga and psychedelic bingo. What’s not to like?
