Feist, Norah Jones, Rachael Yamagata

I am woman, hear me roar. Although my taste in music is prone to frequent and sudden shifts in mood, I can always be counted on to break up my stretches with the occasional female singer-songwriter. Perhaps it’s because, as a fellow woman, I can relate to the feminine honesty these multi-talented songstresses project in their lyrics. Or perhaps it’s because it feels like a worthwhile cause to support these intrepid ladies as they make their mark in an industry that has historically been dominated by men.

From songs about love to songs about post-breakup independence, here’s a small collection of some of my favorite tidbits from contemporary female singer-songwriters. Post some of yours in the comments!
