Los Angeles native and neo-funk artist Zak Waters has a brand new single out, and it’s currently available for free download. “Penelope” is a labyrinth of beats that drive the fantasy-come-to-life musings about a formerly-lusted-after babysitter. Waters croons “I still hear your name in every love song the radio plays / My heart’s a f*ckin’ stereo / How would you see me now, I’ve grown up?” Playful and infinitely danceable, “Penelope” is yet another turn of what Waters does best.
When we last caught up with Waters a few months back, his forthcoming album Lip Service was completed and trickling out, but it looks like the whole enchilada will be coming our way very shortly as Waters’ debut LP will be out exclusively via Spotify on September 9th. In celebration of his debut, Waters’ skinny jeans (and Zak himself) will also be gracing the stage at The Satellite each Monday for a month-long September residency.
