We pretty much have two seasons in Los Angeles: summer and kinda summer. When summer rolls around, I am at my happiest, so each year I make some sort of summer playlist to commemorate the occasion and soundtrack all my sunburned activities.

I realized after a few times listening through this mix that the first line of the first song is “It’s New Year’s Eve.” But for me, summer marks a fresh start. My birthday lands in July, and it always marks a new beginning and the setting of new goals. This made me further realize that music is about more than just lyrics; it is about how it makes you feel as a listener. These songs are all from the last few years and have somehow become necessary for my summer of 2013.

I hope this playlist can become the soundtrack for your summer, too. It has bits and pieces of carelessness and freedom, nostalgia and magic moments, sunrises and sunsets…ok, I just made myself throw up a little bit.

Leave some comments below with your summer songs!
