Sunset Strip Music Festival has announced that multi-platinum selling rock and roll legend Joan Jett will be the festival’s 2013 honoree. This year, the annual festival will take place August 1st-3rd and will feature a performance from headliner Linkin Park with additional performers to be announced in coming weeks.
The iconic Joan Jett will be honored for the pivotal role she had in shaping the musical history of the Sunset Strip. As with previous SSMF honorees, Jett will be celebrated at an exclusive VIP event Thursday, August 1st, at the House of Blues Sunset Strip, kicking off the three-day music festival, and will receive the coveted Elmer Valentine Award. In addition, the City of West Hollywood will name Thursday, August 1st, “Joan Jett Day” in honor of Jett’s contribution to the area.
This year marks the sixth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival as well as the sixth installment of the award ceremony. Joan Jett will be the first female to win the award since the event debuted in 2008, and SSMF Festival Managing Director Karmen Beck is delighted to celebrate Joan Jett who has “so much influenced the history of the legendary boulevard.” Others musical icons to receive the Elmer Valentine Award include Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine (founders of influential Sunset Strip venues The Roxy Theatre, Rainbow Bar & Grill, and Whisky A Go-Go respectively), as well as Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Mötley Crüe, and The Doors.
Following the 2013 honoree award presentation and tribute event will be special high-profile shows in various legendary music venues on the Sunset Strip Thursday and Friday nights. On Saturday, August 3rd, the Sunset Strip Music Festival will come to a close with an all-day street festival.
