I guess that is kind of an intense title for a blog post, but cancer is nothing to take lightly. Soul diva Sharon Jones released openly that she has stage-one bile duct cancer, but don’t worry, she’s going to be fine! The procedure Jones will have is invasive, though, and will result in an extensive recovery process.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings were preparing to release a new studio album, Give The People What They Want, in August followed by several festival appearances and a full tour. Needless to say, the people will not get what they want, at least not when they expected. The album’s release and tour will be postponed until further notice to allow Jones to fully recover.

Sharon released the following statement:

““Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on. We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays. We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct. Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable!

I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover. I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!””

As music fans we tend to idolize musicians and bands. They are almost super-human in our eyes. Unfortunately, this is not true. They are people that deal with the same issues we all deal with. Life is unpredictable. The best thing we can all do is hope for the best and quickest recovery for one of the best front-women in the business and look forward to her triumphant return to the stage.

We love you, Sharon! Get well soon!
