Despite the five years since her last solo release, 2008’s Acid Tongue, indie sweetheart Jenny Lewis has not been resting on her laurels. In 2010, she re-emerged as part of the duo Jenny and Johnny with musician and boyfriend Johnathan Rice to release I’m Having Fun Now, and more recently she has been making quite a name for herself as a film songwriter.
Back in January, it was reported Lewis would be the songwriter for Naomi Foner’s (mother to Maggie & Jake Gyllenhaal) Sundance-screened film Very Good Girls, and now she and Rice have been tapped to write the songs for Anne Hathaway’s new vehicle, Song One. The musical/romantic drama will feature not only their original songs, but a score by them as well.
In the film, Hathaway stars as a young woman who strikes up a relationship with her ailing brother’s favorite musician, played by British musician Johnny Flynn. The film is produced by powerhouse Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs), Marc Platt, Anne Hathaway, and Adam Shulman. Set for release in 2014, Song One begins production this month in New York City.
Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice have been collaborating for some time now; Rice was a prominent writing partner for Lewis’ 2008 Acid Tongue.
