Weekend Jumpstart 031413

If you’re like me, you’re cutting back on concerts in preparation for the upcoming Coachella Festival. If you’re like me, you’re probably also finding it increasingly difficult to upkeep the musical fast because LA never ceases to concoct exciting and tempting opportunities to break your resolve. This weekend is no exception. Talk about first world problems.

Maroon 5 @ The Staples Center – March 15 – Tickets

With Adam Levine’s distinctive vocals and equally distinctive tight pants front and center, the Staples Center will be filled to the brim with a gaggle of screaming ladies when pop outfit Maroon 5 stops by this Friday. Their latest release is unabashedly poppy and undeniably catchy.  When you combine that with classic singles like “This Love” and the aforementioned Levine’s inherent estrogen magnetism, you have what’s sure to be one hell of a show.

Matt Costa @ The Constellation Room – March 16 – Tickets

If you’re leaning toward something a little more on the pensive side this weekend, check out LA-based singer/songwriter/multi-insturmentalist Matt Costa. He’ll undoubtedly be playing largely from his newest effort, a self-titled album that dropped just last month and that, in my opinion, is one of his strongest releases to date. Although this involves a trek out to Santa Ana, Costa’s quirky, clever lyrics and singularly folky sound will undoubtedly make for a Saturday night well spent.

Beyond Wonderland @ San Manuel Ampitheater (formerly Glen Helen Pavilion) - March 16 – Tickets

Those looking for a massive rager best be heading east of LA proper to San Bernardino County for Insomniac’s annual Beyond Wonderland. Although a bevy of big names such as Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello, and David Guetta are on the bill, I’m most excited to see what British deep house maven Maya Jane Coles and drum and bass superstar High Contrast end up bringing to the table. One thing’s for sure, this festival will please a wide variety of electronic music palettes. Add to that Insomniac’s trademark flair for production value and you get what’s sure to be the biggest party of the weekend.
